The former WWE champ AJ Lee has announced a surprise return to the wrestling business.
Lee who is now under the identity AJ Mendez has joined the newly relaunched WOW Women of Wrestling, which has signed an agreement in partnership with Viacom CBS.
Mendez is the color presenter on the series and will also serve as executive producer along with the owner Jeanie Buss.
At a press event that announced the relaunch of the show, Mendez said: “My ambition in the wake of wrestling was to make these characters that would be the new generation.
“So every girl was able to watch themselves on television and knew that there was no limit to what could be achieved.”
AJ declared her retirement in WWE in April of this year.
She was triple-time WWE Divas Champion and held the record for the longest title run of 295 days.
The other wrestler announced to be joining WOW was the former Impact World Champion and Impact Knockouts Champion Tessa Blanchard, who has recently been grappling in conjunction with Lucha Libre AAA in Mexico.
Blanchard is accused of using racial slurs to insult another wrestler prior to her was fired by Impact However, she has repeatedly denied the accusations.
