Vitamin A nasal drop could be able to treat the loss or diminished perception of smell in patients who have suffered from Covid, UK researchers say.
The University of East Anglia is conducting a 12-week study.
Only a handful of volunteer patients will undergo the treatment however, all of them will be asked to smell powerful odors like rotten eggs or roses.
Brain scans will determine whether the vitamin has healed the olfactory pathways that were damaged and “smell nerves”.
- Since I’ve had Covid the food I eat causes me to feel like I’m going to vomit
- Covid smell loss has made the meat taste like petrol.
A loss or a change in smell is a typical sign of Covid but other viruses, including flu, may also trigger it.
Although most people recover in a few weeks, some are affected by ongoing smell issues.
